Good Customer Service Good customer service can make or break a business. Repeat business is key to running a successful operation. Treat your customer right, send them away happy, and they will return...referrals will follow. Your approach to customer service will determines whether or not your customer will return. The key to good customer service is forming a relationship with customers. Good customer service can be achieved by remembering the old adage, “treat you customer the way you want to be treated.” Good customer service can be achieved by following these examples: 1) Answer your phone Make sure someone picks up the phone within 1-3 rings. Hire an answering service or get call forwarding if necessary. Studies have shown that the person calling you wants to talk to a live person. 2) Follow up with your client Follow up is key to keeping your client happy. Even if you are unable to come through for them, let them know that you are doing everything possible to get the job done. Offer alternative solutions if necessary. 3) Listen Let your customer talk and show him that you are listening by making the appropriate responses, such as suggesting how to solve the problem. 4) Handle all complaints immediately – be helpful You will not be able to please everyone 100% of the time, but give the complaint your attention, and position your business to reap the benefits of good customer service. 5) Train your staff to always be helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable Stress the importance of good customer service to your staff. Give them enough information to make the small decisions so he/she never has to say “I don’t know.” 6) Go the extra mile Don’t just tell someone where to get something…show them where it is. Lead the customer to the goal. Wait and see if they have questions you can answer. People notice when you take the extra step. 7) Throw in something extra Discount Tire is a great example. If you have a nail in you tire and take it to Discount Tire, they remove the nail and patch the tire for free. The next time you need new tires, who would you think of first?
